Mike Sullivan comes to Clanton with 19 years of experience in the Parks and Recreation profession. Mr. Sullivan began his career in Homewood in 2002 and worked his way up to be the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. After nine years with Homewood, Mr. Sullivan switched gears to become the Athletics Director for the City of Birmingham, where he coordinated all youth and adult athletics for the 22 parks and rec centers the city had to offer, before being chosen as the City of Pinsonís inaugural Director of Parks and Recreation in 2015. In Pinson, he helped restructure the youth sports programs and added sports such as soccer and flag football. He oversaw the development of Bicentennial Park, which housed a splash pad, half-mile walking track, 18-hole disc golf course, permanent corn hole courts, rental room, and an accessible playground. Mike was elected President of Alabama Recreation and Parks Association in 2014 and has served on numerous committees and has received three state awards for programming.
Mike is a 2001 graduate of the University of West Florida with a degree in Health, Leisure and Sports Studies. He is a proud graduate of Gulf Breeze High School, where he maintains the single game record for assists in one game with 17. He resides in Helena with his wife of 19 years, Leah and his two children, Braden (16) and daughter Lainey (10). Mike is excited about the future of Clanton Parks and Recreation and hopes to provide an inclusive department for programs and facilities for ages 1-99.
